Then, in the early 1900s, Albert Einstein’s relativity blew away the whole idea. They showed that space and time are part of a unified space-time that is warped by both gravity and motion. Once again, we thought we understood time and its true nature. Not for long, though, because quantum mechanics, our best description of the smallest parts of reality, came along and tore apart our understanding of time once again.
